Robeco Zomerconcerten each year July and August
The Dutch are great music lovers - they have several good orchestras and excellent musicians, while the Concertgebouw acoustics counts as one of the world’s best. Each summer, informal and entertaining concerts take place there - the Robeco Summer Concerts. Robeco is a successful Rotterdam based, financial assists management firm (est.1929) which co-organizes and sponsors the concerts.
The concert themes
The Summer Concerts are organized in different series, even small festivals under one very general theme. For example, the main theme of the 2007 concerts was Heart and Soul (Hart en Ziel), with the special accent on the compositions of Johannes Brahms because of the 110 anniversary of the composer’s death.
The Summer Concerts have also several minor themes – there are concerts for children, concerts of the music of distant countries (Wereledmuziek), jazz concerts and a weekend set apart to one instrument – a guitar (Guitaarweekend).
Top musicians
Several recitals present an orchestra of an established reputation with a star soloist, as German clarinetist Sabine Meyer, who gave concerts in Amsterdam in 2007, or Dutch violinist and conductor Jaap van Zweden. Nevertheless, there are also less prestigious but not less attractive events, with Youth Orchestra or an unknown soloist performing. Almost every evening through the summer, there is a different concert and the choice is big.
Organizing your visit
A full program of the festival is usually known in April, you may check it on-line. You may reserve your tickets starting May 1 of each year via the Summer Concerts or the Concertgebouw websites (addresses below).
Most of the concerts begin at 8.15 p.m. and there is a possibility to visit the Concertgebouw arriving at 6.15 p.m. (at an additional fee of € 4,- ; one hour long visit).
Another opportunity is to have a dinner before the concert in the Mirror Hall of the Concertgebouw. Again, you should reserve your place earlier and arrive at 6.15 p.m. An additional fee for a three courses dinner is € 30,- per person. Please check the website - before some concerts, this possibility might be excluded. Reservation is recommended.

Tickets
Are available via a special telephone line - de Robeco Zomerconcertlijn (telephone: 0900 - 8012, € 0,10 per minute). Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sunday 12 a.m. – 4 p.m.). You may also buy tickets on-line via the websites of the Summer Concerts and the one of the Concertgebouw.
On the day of the concert, starting at 10 a.m., the unsold tickets may be bought directly at the cashier of the Concertgebouw. From 11 a.m., they can be also reserved by phone (via Zomerconcertlijn).
Please be advised that if you have your tickets to the concert at the Concertgebouw, they will also serve as the valid public transport tickets (for tram, bus and metro), during the concert evening.
