Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw
House in a building that dates back to the 15th century, Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw can lay claim to being a stalwart part of Amsterdam's history. The hotel opened its doors in 1911 and is one of the few still privately owned hotels in Amsterdam.
Location
One of the city's Dam Square hotels, Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw could hardly have a more central location. Busy Damrak with its many cafés runs from near the Royal Palace and National Monument to Centraal Station and Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw can be found at its Dam Square end. Visitors should keep an eye out for the terrace of the hotel's brasserie and will find the entrance to the hotel alongside.
Dining
The hotel's restaurant, De Roode Leeuw dates back to 1911; a refurbishment in 2006 updated the facilities yet kept many of the Art Deco features to preserve the establishment's character. The restaurant is open daily from 7:00 to 23:00, serving regional Dutch specialties as well as international dishes from noon until 22:00. The brasserie's terrace is one of the oldest heated and air-conditioned terraces in Amsterdam, dating back to 1930, and serves to allow guests a view of Damrak and the busy city centre crowds over their drinks or snacks. For those who prefer a more private start to the day it is also possible to have breakfast served to the room courtesy of the hotel's room service.
