Hundred years old townhouse in a wide street near the Waterlooplein in Amsterdam, in the middle of quiet residential area with Artis ZOO, Resistance Museum, Hortus Botanical Garden, Tropenmuseum and Mike’s Bike in a close proximity and the old city centre, within 10 minutes walking distance bears the proud name of Hotel Rembrandt. Trams (line 9 and 14) stop nearby, taking you within minutes to Rembrandt Square, Munt and Dam.
You enter the hotel trough couple of small steps. Since inside, it feels cozy, but also accidentally furnished. Nevertheless, its rooms are not as small as in most of the Amsterdam budget hotels and its lobby and the breakfast room offer enough space not to bump constantly against furniture. All rooms have good beds, cable TV, Internet (surcharge), coffee and tea machine, mini bar(surcharge), very basic but clean bathrooms. Breakfast is on the budget level, but the choice is big and it is all fresh and tasty. Many reproductions of Rembrandt’s paintings remind you about the hotel’s patron. A library with 1500 books, most of them in English will serve you if you are used to read before falling asleep. A good Japanese restaurant (Yamazoto) is located not far from the hotel.
If you travel by car, there is a car park just next to the hotel. If you must catch the train or get to the airport, tram line 9 will take you within 15 minutes to the Central Station. The hotel may also arrange for a low cost shuttle, to bring you to the airport.
While Hotel Rembrandt is nothing of a big attraction, it remains a decent, simple two star hotel, conveniently located in a quiet and safe neighborhood. In our view – one of the best budget hotels in Amsterdam.
