This one star hotel is about as central as you can find, located right in the middle of the Red Light District. Not a place to stay for a quiet weekend, the Hotel Royal Taste is certainly geared towards the Amsterdam party crowd who don't plan on spending much time in their rooms. The offering here is much the same as many other cheap Amsterdam hotels; don't expect high luxury, but the rooms are clean and serviceable. Since the hotel is in such a party area, it can be quite loud and for this reason light sleepers are advised to bring a set of sturdy earplugs.

Location

Hotel Royal Taste can be found on one of the busiest canals in the Red Light District, Oudezijds Achterburgwal, which also plays host to many of the famous Amsterdam sex shows such as the Moulin Rouge. To find the hotel from Central Station you can follow the busy Damrak and its neon lights south and take a left at the famous Grasshopper coffeeshop, a large building with green lights that should be hard to miss. From here, walk as straight as you can east, crossing Warmoestraat and Oudezijds Voorburgwal and the hotel can be found to the right, just past the Banana Bar and across the canal from the Erotic Museum.

Dining

The hotel offers a simple Dutch breakfast to its customers for an extra fee, although with a location this central there are plenty of better options outside of the hotel. On the nearby Nieuwmarkt, you can find everything from Irish bars with pub grub to high class Italian cuisine. Amsterdam's Chinatown is also very close, and so Chinese, Thai and Indonesian restaurants are not hard to find in the area. A short stroll in the other direction is Dam Square, Amsterdam's busiest shopping hub, and here there is everything from fast food outlets to expensive restaurants inside four star hotels.

With only twelve rooms in the entire hotel, there is not a huge variety of choice and you can choose either a single room, a double room or a single room with a shared bathroom. Rooms with their own bathroom come with a shower, while all rooms have a TV and central heating. All rooms and public areas in this hotel are non-smoking and it is not possible to have extra beds placed in any room.
