Markets in Amsterdam

In Amsterdam, there are 12 markets that are onep every day of the week. In addition to that there are 15 markets which are open one or two days of the week. And in addition to that there are several markets which are open seasonally. So if you like buying or just browsing goods outdoors, in the market atmosphere you will not have a lack of opportunity to do so. For flowers or plants visit the Bloemenmarkt, for organic food check the Boerenmarkt. And if you are looking for something unique, go to the Waterlooplein Flea Market. On some stalls you can find even things like electric domestic appliances and household tools. Or speciality homemade produce like cheeses or bread.
Most markets in Amsterdam are open during normal shopping hours. But weather also influences marketers presence. But since these markets are in the centre of town you do not have to invest long travel to visit them and so you can easily just go there even if you are not sure about the richness of goods available. The stalls are colorful, packed with interesting things and sometimes there is live music or street artists. You can also find original and cheap souvenirs. Paintings, clothes, books and various curiosities.
But if you want to experience a market to the full, don't show up after 3pm, many stalls are already closing at that time. Come before noon. And visit all the stalls before buying something. Some stalls tend to apply "tourist prices". On most markets all items are individually priced and haggling is not usual. However if you like this experience you can try it at the at the Waterlooplein flea market where haggling is still commonplace.
Markets are usually crowded. Watch out for pickpockets. Carry your valuables inside your jacket and hold your bag in front of you.
