The Dutch Costume Museum in Amsterdam
In many Dutch villages since centuries local people wear truly unique folk costumes. You may see them every day in streets of villages located north from Amsterdam like Volendam, Marken and Enkhuizen. A new small museum called The Dutch Costume Museum or in Dutch Het Klederdracht presents a collection of most beautiful of these costumes.
The Collection
Amazing with their colours and beauty of their craftsmanship the presented costumes are most of all women’s clothes - blouses, hats, dresses, shoes but also complete clothes for men and for kids. The Amsterdam Costume Museum presents its exceptional collection of Dutch vintage clothes on mannequins. All information about the exhibit comes through a free audio tour. The exhibit is arranged on several floors of the beautiful originally preserved 17 C. canal house.
Photo Studio
The basement of the museum was adapted to a simple photo studio. In a traditional decor of the Dutch village interior and with some basic props at hand, you may dress up in a traditional Dutch costume. A professional photographer at an additional fee of € 15.00 will make your picture in this exotic outfit. A true fun if you visit museum with kids or in a group of friends.
The feel
A small sympathetic museum, addressed to people interested in fashion, design and folk art. The exhibit might be not worth a detour, but certainly remains a small interesting show presented in an authentic old canal house setting, especially for people interested in the subject. Free audio tour helps to understand the background of the costumes on show.
