What's On Amsterdam - July 2015
Over het IJ Festival
NDSM Wharf, 2–12 July
This festival brings live music, tasty food and a series of tours, workshops, theatre performances and debates to the NDSM Wharf, across the Ij from Amsterdam proper. Simply hopping on a free ferry behind Central Station will transport you to this former shipyard, which for these 10 days is converted into a festival town. Given the location’s history, many events are held inside shipping containers for a particularly intimate feel. While some performances are in Dutch, others are in English or entirely without language so there is always something here to enjoy. Tickets and the full line-up are available via the festival’s website.

Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek
Various Locations, 3–13 July
The Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek returns to Amsterdam this summer to bring both style and substance to the catwalk. Dozens of professional catwalk shows will take place in Westergasfabriek in the west of the city, showcasing the newest trends from around the globe. You don’t have to be a fashionista to get involved though. While industry insiders head to Westerpark, Zalando presents 10 Days Downtown, bringing fashion events to regular people across Amsterdam. Events are planned at Vondelpark, the EYE Film Institute and the Stedelijk Museum among others. Check the event’s website for details and to book free tickets.

The Gelato Festival brings real Italian ice cream to the Marie Heinekenplein, just behind the Heineken Experience. The festival directors will also present a new flavour, debuted specifically for Amsterdam. Entrance is free, but a Gelato Card can be bought online for EUR 5 that gives the bearers express access to ice cream stalls and free samples. It also allows the bearer to vote in the Gelato competition and take part in Gelato making workshops.
