A-train Hotel Amsterdam

A-train Hotel AmsterdamA small hotel opposite Amsterdam Central Station. It is enough to cross a busy Prins Hendrikkade street, to check in at the A-train Hotel (formerly Schirmann Hotel). It is a modest, small (34 rooms) budget hotel decorated by an apparent railway aficionado. Entering the lobby you move 70 years back in time. The hotel’s interior looks like a provincial railway museum complete with old suitcases, brass kettles and old photographs. Luckily, its decorated rooms although small are real, bathrooms are modern, the hotel service is friendly and helpful.

Location

A-train Hotel is located directly in front of the Amsterdam Airport terminal within 5 minutes of walk.

Hotel Services

A-train Hotel AmsterdamA-train Hotel rooms are simple, very small as it is often the case with hotels in old buildings in Amsterdam, with good beds and modern bathrooms. In each room there is a TV set (CNN and two British channels among the choice in several languages). No air-conditioning but a fan in each room. The hotel is very clean.

Internet with a surcharge: WiFi in all rooms and a computer in the lobby. There is a room to store your luggage - important, if you plan to leave the city hours after you checked out from your room (lockers at the nearby Central Station are open only until 11pm and they are nuisance to use). The hotel has 24 hours reception.

Dining

A-train Hotel serves breakfast (included in the price of the room) in its Pullman Lounge – a long room decorated as the train compartment. Still, its seats are not plush – it is more a lower class wagon than the old train Pullman. The self-service breakfast is excellent – all is fresh and tasty; toasts, coffee, juice, cereals, Dutch cheese, ham.

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are plenty of dinning possibilities in the neighborhood. The breakfast room remains always open and there is a vending machine with hot drinks – coffee, tea and snacks – you may always sit there and have your drink.

The feel

To stay at the A-train Hotel must be an adventure for children. As for the adults – overlook the theme. At the end this décor is better than kitsch in many modern hotels. Efficient, very friendly staff of the A-train Hotel makes it a budget hotel to recommend.
